What You Know About Beacons And What You Don’t Know

Beacons, also known as beacon lights, are electronic devices that alert people of a hazardous area or potentially dangerous situations by sending signals with the help of a signalling device, such as a fire alarm system. These visual alarm devices are handy and used widely in many industrial and automation applications because they inform people of the current situation or what is to come and how to react safely in such situations.

There are various types of beacons lights, and they all have a specific role to play in ensuring the safety of people depending on their colour, duration of alarm, or light effect. Enrgtech offers an extensive range of high-quality beacon lights from some of the leading brands in the industry.

Different Colours of Beacons

Beacons have different lens colours, and each of them has different meanings. It is crucial to choose the right colour because it ensures that your site runs smoothly, but more importantly, it helps you to keep your people safe on a working day.

Red

The colour red means danger and signals immediate action

Amber

This colour indicates or warns of imminent danger, situation, or condition. However, this needs to be controlled manually.

Blue

This colour indicates a change and that it needs to be handled by the operator, such as equipment machinery power down

Green

The colour green indicates that there is no danger and that everything is safe.

Types of Warning Beacons

There are five different categories of beacons or beacon lights in the automation and control gear categories that are:

Rotating

Rotating beacons consist of a motor-drive reflector that revolves around a constantly lit bulb. They can produce a substantial beacon range of 360 degrees

Flashing

This beacon light technology utilizes internal circuitry that constantly cycles the bulb on and off.

Static

Static beacons are permanently illuminated, giving a steady light output once the beacon is powered.

Xenon

Xenon beacons usually have a discharge capacitor that functions through a converter circuit within the beacon housing. This excites the xenon gas inside the tube, creating a bright flash of light.

LED

LEDs commonly consist of a semiconductor device known as a light-emitting diode. The beacon light illuminates when an electric current passes through it.
